Year after year, the Mercury Grand Marquis is a sales leader among full-size sedans, and it’s easy to see why. It has the most horsepower and torque, the roomiest interior and the biggest trunk of any vehicle in its class.
The Mercury Grand Marquis is the only vehicle in its class with a standard V-8 engine — the 4.6-liter, single-overhead-cam V-8, which produces 224 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 275 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The Jeep Commander is, in many ways, an engineering tour de force. Using the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee - which is shared with the Mercedes M-Class, but developed by Jeep/Truck Engineering in Detroit - the Commander is not a mere cosmetic rebadging job, but a fully retuned, reconfigured vehicle. The Mercedes SL debuted in 1957 and has been an object of lust ever since. A two-seat, rear-wheel-drive roadster, the SL is the classic sporting Mercedes. Like the original, today’s SL boasts outstanding performance. The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has matured in every way over its six generations, quicker and faster on the one hand, more beautiful and more luxurious on the other, to the point where it lacks absolutely nothing, from its array of powerful V8 and V12 engines to its powerful stereo to its active suspension system to those all-day bucket seats. It is a marvel of automotive technology, featuring a folding steel convertible top. Read the rest of this entry »

It doesn’t take long to realize that the new 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco is a better drive than the highly praised Golf GTI. The two might share much of their underpinnings, but the adoption of wider tracks ensures the former is more sure-footed around the Nürburgring.
And we know this because we’re driving the 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco on the Nürburgring, part of a final-check ride of VW’s newest performance vehicle before it goes on sale in Europe this summer. Read the rest of this entry »
