Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen 2009 review.

While we were in Virginia attending the inaugural race of the Jetta TDI cup series, Volkswagen provided us hacks with a some new Jetta Sportwagens with which to make the 45 minute morning and evening commute between the Berry Hill Inn and the race track. Like the last generation Jetta Wagon, the new Sportwagen is branded as a Jetta in North America because Jetta is Volkswagen’s top-selling model here. Read the rest of this entry »

Audi RS6 Avant 2008 review.

Back in 1986, AMG unleashed an E-class with a 360bhp 5.6-litre V8. They called it ‘The Hammer’. Great name, great car. The new RS6 needs a name like that. Its twin-turbo 5-litre V10 has 572bhp and 479lb ft, and if it weren’t for a spoilsport electronic limiter it would crack 200mph with relative ease, passing 62mph in 4.6sec and 124mph in

Lamborghini LP640 2008 review.

Yep, six months have already passed since LP07 EVO first graced these pages, and so comes the part of Lambo ownership I dread most: a service.

Costs for the LP640 have so far been roughly the same as they were for SG54 LAM (my old orange Murciélago long-termer) during its first few months, and that’s despite LP07’s track work in the autumn of last year. Read the rest of this entry »

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X 2008 review.

On the road price: £27,954 - £32,454

For : Handles superbly, acceptable comfort and refinement, semi-auto option

Against : Engine sounds rather flat, cabin refinement not the step forward we had hoped

DrivingIf you’re thinking the Evo isn’t as hardcore as it once was, you’d be right. From the word go it feels more refined, secure, solid and stable. Read the rest of this entry »

Mercedes CLC 220 CDI SE 2008 review.

It’s the cheapest coupé in Mercedes’ model range. But the new CLC is by no means a budget option – and it has the price tag to prove it!
The diesel-powered 2.2-litre CDI version driven here will set you back just short of £22,300. On the face of it, that’s a large amount to pay for a car which originally went on sale back in 2001 – although buyers still get a lot of Mercedes for their money.

Audi TTS 2008 review.

Designed to appeal to a young and dynamic clientele, the TTS represents the Audi brand’s Vorsprung durch Technik (”advancement through technology”) in its very latest form. The TFSI engine in the TTS takes the two Audi technologies of gasoline direct injection and turbocharging and blends them to form a perfect partnership. Read the rest of this entry »
