Mercedes-Benz’s three-pointed star has long been synonymous with style and prestige, but it has historically taken a backseat to BMW’s blue and white propeller as a symbol of driving excitement. Just over a year ago the Ford folks brought waves of journalists to Texas hill country to introduce the new Super Duty trucks - F-250, F-350 and F-450 series. After all, Texas is truck country and proud of it. I was in the second wave and missed the opportunity to experience the mud, dirt, trailering and other fun – that is, the serious evaluation – because of a debilitating ice storm that kept us in the hotel. Introduction
Audi introduced its first SUV, the Q7, just last year. Despite its tardiness, the Q7 is packed to its 18-inch wheels with luxury goodies and the type of exceptional quality that has characterized Audis for more than a decade. A crossover SUV, the Q7 is a distant cousin of the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, but it has (among many other things) been lengthened by more than a foot to accommodate a third row of seats.
