The project hasn’t exactly been a mystery. Chevrolet has been working on a high-end Corvette to slot above the Z06 as GM’s hottest sports car for some time. The car has been known as the Blue Devil and the Corvette SS, but when it arrives in dealers this summer it will be the next incarnation of the ZR1.
Power will be phenomenal. GM is targeting at least 620 horsepower and 595 pound-feet of torque. The ZR1 will be capable of reaching 200 mph and cornering at better than 1 g of lateral grip. Read the rest of this entry »

Chevrolet added the Aveo subcompact in 2004 as its lowest-priced car. Offered as a four-door sedan or four-door hatchback, the Aveo was based on a design by the defunct Korean automaker Daewoo. The sedan’s styling was freshened inside and out for the 2007 model year, while the hatchback carried on with the same styling and a name change to Aveo5. At the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet announced the 2009 Aveo5 would get fresh styling to bring it in line with the sedan. Read the rest of this entry »

The Chevy Silverado was lavished with product awards when it was totally redesigned for 2007. For 2008, Silverado gets some detail improvements and minor pricing adjustments. The styling is bold yet still conservative when compared with the latest pickups from Dodge, Nissan, Toyota, and Ford. While the sheet metal was all-new for 2007, the main reason the new Silverado looks bolder is that it’s three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear than the previous generation, a big difference. The Chevrolet Malibu nameplate has been around for a long, long time, in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Once a big car, the Malibu has in recent years been Chevrolet’s bread-and-butter sedan, fitting in the lineup just below the larger Impala, which is itself a downsized version of the old full-size Impala.
Today the Malibu competes directly against the other midsize sedans on the market, among them the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and Ford Fusion. Read the rest of this entry »

The Corvette is the great American sports car. It’s thrilling to drive, with breathtaking acceleration performance and excellent grip for hard braking and high-speed cornering.
Value isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when talk turns to the Chevrolet Corvette, but the Corvette is one of the best bangs for the buck when it comes to high performance. For the price of a midsize luxury sedan, the Corvette delivers supercar performance. It’s easy to drive on a daily basis, and maintenance costs are not exotic. Read the rest of this entry »

Once again, Camaro5.com sends in these photos that appear to show the full-scale Camaro model being used by the GM Accessories design studio to test all the factory knick-knacks and bolt-ons that they have in the works. Forget the tease we all got via the upskirt video GM allowed to be filmed — this shows the full monty. Read the rest of this entry »

The Chevrolet Cobalt returns to the traditional Chevy car style in many ways, aside from the Corvette-like round tail-lamps. It takes the standard small car and adds a certain touch of class and comfort, and sells at a small premium if you ignore the rebates.
The interior has a quality look absent from many competitors, and the ride is smoother without giving up much in cornering. Overall, we liked the ride/handling balance and the engine’s willingness to move at speed, and regretted a bit of low-end hesitation and some quirks. Read the rest of this entry »

The 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS is the latest example of what Chevrolet considers the new generation of SS cars — vehicles that, to quote the PR folks’ oft-repeated mantra, “go, stop and turn significantly better” than standard Chevrolet cars.
Chevrolet is counting on the HHR SS to give buyers a proper re-introduction to the SS lineup.

There is no truth so inconvenient that it can’t be fixed with clever marketing. With an eco-parade of automakers making promises both daring and dubious in their race to join the green gravy train, some skepticism is in order. But now I’ve been to the fuel cell mountaintop and have prayed to the hydrogen altar in an Equinox FCEV. Say Hallelujah! I’m ready to fall to my knees as a true believer in the New Gas. Well, almost.
