Outside the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo’s famous Casino Square, the crowds of tourists with camera phones seem ignorant of the fact that most motoring journalists don’t rate the looks of the 612 Scaglietti. They’re as happy to pose alongside the slightly ungainly 2+2 Ferrari as they are to cosy up with the F430 Spider and Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder sat on the other side of the valet parking zone. The Ferrari F430 Scuderia, a lightweight version of the F430 coupe, goes on sale next spring.
The F430 Scuderia, which joins the F430 Coupe and Spyder already on the market, is powered by a 510-hp, 9000-rpm, 4.3-liter V8 engine that makes almost 30 horsepower more than the standard F430 engine. You have to feel sorry for the Ferrari engineers and designers. Every time they succeed in producing an outstanding car, their next job is to improve on it.
This was the case for the 599 GTB Fiorano. The brief was to design a two-door, front mid-engined, rear wheel drive, 2-seater, luxury car with performance that betters that of the iconic F40. Oh, and it has to look stunning. Read the rest of this entry »
