“The interior is built for pure functionality, and while it may not be pretty, it sure gets the job done…”
“Besides new front-end styling, the designers have added a set of side-hinged doors on the driver’s side, greatly enhancing interior access, and have also created a set of access panels that open onto a quartet of storage cubbies handy for tradesmen.” Read the rest of this entry »

With crossover SUVs becoming increasingly popular, it might be easy to forget that SUVs started out based on pickup trucks. While crossovers hold an attractive edge in terms of ride and handling dynamics, and usually better fuel efficiency and interior space, traditional truck-based utes still offer tougher off-road capability and greater towing capacity. For those who prefer this old-school approach to SUV design, GMC offers the 2008 Envoy. Read the rest of this entry »

GMC Canyon comes with more muscle for 2007. The base-level four-cylinder engine has been bored out from 2.8 to 2.9 liters for 2007, and produces 185 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 10 horsepower and 5 pound-feet. The optional five-cylinder motor has been enlarged from 3.5 to 3.7 liters, for 242 horsepower and 242 pound-feet, up from the 2006’s 220 and 225, respectively. Read the rest of this entry »

GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups are well-suited for real-world use and abuse. They can haul tons of brick and cement and tow the mixer, then turn around to be used for a night on the town or grocery shopping while the fifth-wheel’s left in camp or the horses are in the corral. The Sierra HD models are the mid-level part of GMC’s truck lineup, so if your hauling happens once or twice a year, or you tow a bass or ski boat, the 1500-series is better-suited; conversely, if you’ve got a mammoth trailer to pull, step up to the Kodiak/Top Kick medium-duties. It is a universal truth that for every Chevy truck that debuts, there is a GMC version not far behind. This maxim even extends to the two-mode hybrid versions of the automaker’s GMT900 half-ton pickups. At the LA Auto Show late last year, Chevy debuted the 2009 Silverado Hybrid. Faced with rising gas prices and eco-protests, the market for full-size SUVs has seen better times. General Motors answers the call for better fuel economy with the 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid. Equipped with the new two-mode hybrid system, the Yukon Hybrid gets an EPA-rated 21 mpg City, matching ratings with a four-cylinder Camry.
The entire GMC Yukon lineup was completely redesigned and re-engineered last year and carries into 2008 with few changes other than the addition of the Hybrid model. The Yukon rides on the same superb platform as the Chevy Suburban and Silverado. Yukon offers power, space, and towing capacity. It can haul large loads of gear, it can survive repeated pounding over rugged terrain, it can pull heavy trailers, all while transporting four in luxurious comfort. Read the rest of this entry »

SUVs are evil. Evil I tell you! They represent all that’s bad about America: greed, sloth, gluttony, selfishness, arrogance and environmental indifference. They gargle gas, warm the planet and knock poor little hybrids into next week. More importantly, SUVs cost a fortune to feed and depreciate like packet of condoms. So what’s an SUV-intensive manufacturer like GM to do? Why make an SUV that doesn’t do all that hard-core SUV stuff, spiffy-it-up a bit, and sell it to all the people who love SUVs but hate SUVs. Ladies and gentlemen, the GMC Acadia.
