Turbocharging has been as much a part of Saab’s DNA for the last three decades as jets. Saab didn’t invent turbocharging, but the Swedish brand has probably embraced it more completely than other carmaker. With 2008 marking the 30th birthday of the first production Saab 99 Turbo, the gang in Trollhattan decided to celebrate with their meanest and fastest iteration yet. Read the rest of this entry »

These are the first true pictures of the 2010 Saab 9-4X crossover vehicle, just captured by our spy photographers undergoing track testing.
We first saw this body style at the Detroit Auto Show, being touted at as the 9-4X BioPower Concept, but Saab is obviously serious about bringing this to the marketplace in a timely fashion.

First impressions last. Or in this case, first. Anyway, the slightly-new-for-‘06 (but mostly unchanged since ‘99) Saab 9-5 SportCombi misses the mark at first glance. GM’s Swedish division crafted a wagon that looks like a slightly larger Saab 9-3, only uglier. The SportCombi’s low greenhouse, swoopy rear windows and huge up-curving C-pillars combine all the worst elements of a ‘00 Saturn SW wagon and a Cadillac SRX. The design says “We wanted to make a wagon, but we only had enough cash for a car-camper shell.” Volvo continues to master Skandinavisk chic. Saab goes for cheap chic– and fails.
