Kia has unveiled its new Amanti, a facelifted version of the mid-size sedan that made its debut in 2002.

The new model gets a new 3.8-liter V-6, a platform lighter by 251 pounds, a modified suspension, an upgraded interior, and a new nose and different taillights.

The new aluminum V-6 engine produces 264 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, up 32 percent from the outgoing powerplant. The V-6 is teamed to a five-speed automatic transmission that improves fuel economy and should match or even outperform the engines of the Amanti’s competitors.

The independent suspension has been improved for better ride comfort and improved handling, Kia says.

The Amanti’s shape gets a new hood, a wider and more refined grille, and new headlights. New front and rear bumpers, trunk lid, taillamps, dual exhaust pipes, rear quarter panels, and alloy wheels mark the other exterior changes. Adjustable pedals and 17-inch chrome wheels are now available.

The cabin of the 2007 Amanti has been upgraded with standard chrome interior door handles, wood trim, and a leather covered armrest, as well as a restyled dash. It features a standard moonroof, an eight-way power adjustable driver seat and a four-way power front passenger seat, and a power sunroof with sliding sunshade.

The 2007 Amanti has eight airbags, more than the other vehicles in its class, while the 2007 model also has a standard tire-pressure monitoring system. Anti-lock brakes are standard, while stability control, traction control, and brake assist are available as a package.

The Amanti will arrive in U.S. showrooms sometime in January.

Prices have not been announced yet, but we expect them to start at around $28,000.
